Less restrictive environment is one of the basic principles of People with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The U.S. State Department's educational requirements, any public body or school must ensure:

1) To the maximum extent appropriate, children are provided with disabilities, including children in public or private institutions or other care facilities, with children who are not disabled.

2) special classes, separateDistance, at school, or other children is only when the nature or severity of disability so that education in regular classes with the use of additional tools and services does not reach satisfactory with disabilities from the regular education system.

Students with learning difficulties who are authorized an IEP (Individualized Education Program), which is the least restrictive environment (LRE) appropriate for the intendedStudent.

Many parents, especially just starting in an IEP can not understand what is the least restrictive environment and why it is important, and the definition of the U.S. Department of Education to understand so easily.

In essence, the goal is to keep learning disabled students in the same class and learning the same curriculum as their peers. This is important to understand why the PEI can have items such as "pull-out" together with the listedNumber of hours per week the child will be pulled out.

Pulling a student from the regular classroom is not necessarily a bad thing. One reason for this might be working with a specialist such as a speech and language disorders teacher. It would be impossible to give one-on-one attention with the child in a regular classroom and would be detrimental to other students. When these situations kept to a minimum, the child will still spend the most time in school with peers.

If necessary,students have access to medical services, and if in a regular class with nondisabled peers who are required to be placed to achieve educational goals.

Less restrictive environment is good because it ensures that the student learn alongside other children her age and will go through the school in almost normal situations. It's good for their learning, and good for their self-esteem.

This is called "inclusion" andaims, students can be included with their peers with learning disabilities or difficulties.

Including all students in the classroom environment itself, are all exposed to the differences between each other and offer a greater variety of educational environment.
